Mood Board

After the practice photo shoot we were set a task to start drafting ideas for our own music magazine.
We had to look into the various genres of music magazines. My results showed a broad range of music magazines including pop, indie, rock and classical.
Some of the magazines I looked at more closely were NME, Billboard and Q magazine.
I was able to pin point the contrasting features and this enabled me to start coming up with my own ideas and what I wanted on my own magazine.
With these ideas I decided to create a mood board. This showed a majority of my ideas. On the mood board I also started to play around with fonts and names for my magazine.

Here is my mood board where I have started to draft my original ideas. I decided I wanted my target audience to be teenagers who have a large interest in music. This meant I could focus on making the magazine eye-catching and informal.
Billboard magazine has had a lot of inspiration towards my ideas. I liked the fact that the magazine continues to use only one main image on the front cover. I would like to imitate this feature in my own work.

This research task has been really useful and given me a wide range of ideas that I feel would be really good to incorporate in my own work. Studying the various magazines has also enabled me to narrow down my music magazine genre and start to look in more depth at my own ideas for my work.

Practice Photoshoot-

Recently we have been looking at various camera shots, as a class it was decided we should set up a practice photo-shoot and look into taking our own pictures to gain basic experience using the photography equipment and getting a grasp of taking pictures.
We worked in small groups transferring the camera between us so we were all individually taking images and also acting as models for the other group members. To help generate pictures that looked as if they represented the music magazine industry we brought in props such as microphones to make the images slightly more related to music.
Individually I decided to take various pictures some group pictures, using close-up shots and  wide shots. I also took two- shot pictures again using various shot types both from low and high angles.
I really enjoyed the activity and was able to gain a brief idea of how the camera worked and different positions and camera shots that work well. I think this task was beneficial as I have gained ideas for my media piece and now have a better understanding of the equipment.
