Analysis of Hello! Magazine cover

As a class we had a discussion about the Hello! and it's magazine cover and the typical message we could get from the magazine cover. The magazine title is at the top of the page, making it clear for the audience what the title is. It is also a main point of focus and being called Hello! shows a welcoming and friendly approach to the audience.
The magazine may be called Hello! As it represents a conversation starter and could indicate to the audience it is a gossip magazine.
Another point of focus is the use of an abnormal colour such as the bright pink highlights the cheaper  price of the magazine. The use of the word ‘only’ also influences you to buy the magazine as it is a one off cheaper price.
The dominating photo on the cover lets the audience recognise that the main story is going to be about the photo. The photo is of Prince Harry and his girlfriend it seems to be professionally styled even though it is really a natural shot.
The colours are patriotic showing the magazine focuses mainly on Britain and the use of
The font is clear and easy to read which is a main convention of a magazine. The colours follow the British flag. Red, white and blue showing its typical influence of British celebrities. Another aspect of the language is  the use of 'Luxury Beauty Bonanza' which is a cluster of three. Bonanza is also a informal chatty word showing the genre of the magazine.

‘Exclusive’ makes the reader believe that the magazine has a one off story. They may be persuaded to purchase the magazine if they think it has a special article that is exclusive to that magazine and of their interest.
The photograph in the corner is a close up picture which highlights the faces of the people. The photo also relates to the caption on the side of the photo letting readers know there is a continued story inside.  All photo’s used are a high quality and capture the main details of the image such as facial expressions or a background that relates to the inside story.

We also discovered that the use of more pictures to words gives a clear insight that the magazine will contain a lot of images rather than text, this is a key feature of the magazine as in a sense the pictures tell the story.
The magazine gives a overall positive image and the overall layout of the magazine is clear, clean cut and neat.

By analysisng the front cover of Hello! magazine I have been able to pinpoint the main conventions of a front cover and how they contribute to the overall feel of the magazine. Looking closely at the layout and colours has enabled me to understand and gain ideas for my own music magazine. I liked the theme of the patriotic colours used to represent the British content, this individual quality is something I would like to imitate into my own personal work.
